THE PORT OF ALCUDIA BOAT SHOW AND GASTRONOMY FAIR

Just 25 minutes away in the car from Villas Petra Mallorca in the north east of the island is the Port of Alcudia. It is a popular tourist spot thanks to its fine sandy beaches, waterfront and culinary delights. Over a weekend at the start of the season, the town hosts the Boat Show and Gastronomy Fair. It is a must-see for those who would like to discover Majorcan culture.

The highly popular event has two main sections:

– A Boat Exhibition on the Waterfront. The many boats on display include the typical Balearic boat – the llaüt. This fishing craft was traditionally used for trawling. It has evolved over time to become a recreational craft.

– A Gastronomy Fair dedicated to cuttlefish. A large marquee houses over 20 restaurants offering their tastiest and most original cuttlefish recipes. Cuttlefish is similar to squid and very common in Spanish cuisine. It can be found in stews with sobrasada sausage or onion. It is also delicious grilled with a garlic sauce, oil and parsley, or even in a good rice or noodle dish. The Gastronomy Fair also highlights the local types of “pa amb oli” sandwiches and omelettes.

In addition to these two main themes, the Fair also has handicrafts on sale at the market.

We recommend taking the children along since there are also children’s activities, workshops and competitions.

The final touch is provided by local music performances.

Our “Sa Font de Petra” restaurant can serve its “Cuttlefish with onion” dish with advanced booking.
